Maine Supplemental Dental Insurance, Needed in addition to my PPO dental plan

Thursday, Dec. 2nd 2010 10:18 AM

Both my husband and I have our dental insurance though my husband job.  They offer him a PPO plan that has a 1000.00 yearly max.  In the past few years we have not needed more then the max aloud a year.

Now however I have an tooth that had an old filling that now needs to have a root canal and crown done.  Along with another tooth that the dentist told me I should also have a root canal and a crown done.

Two root canals and two crowns are sure to go over my $1000 per year max limitation.  Is there any Supplemental dental insurance plans I can get that will not have any waiting periods and which I can use to help me out with my dental cost?

Well if you are wanting to stay with your current dental office I would start with them. Find out if they are even willing to combine two dental insurance plans.

So dental office will not. Assuming that they do then find out what other plans they take that will work with what you currently have so you can find dental insurance plans you know they take.

Instead of going into plan they do not just to check since doing so is time consuming

I would work if you could get a dental discount plan to help off set your dentist cost then bill out for the lower cost to your current dental insurance carrier.

However a dental discount plan requires you to stay within their dnetal network of providers. So your dentist would need to accept the plan in quesiton.

Or you may have to change dentist that take the plan and confirm with them that they are willing to still handle your current dental insurance.

See if you dentist takes any HMO dental insurance plans you can buy. Dental HMO plans normally do not have waiting periods or annul max limitations.

I the office does I would look in that direction and since they are low cost plan normally I would drop the plan you have since it does not seem to work well the minute you need more then a basic dental care.
